Awards and Tags Party!!!

blogger recognition award.jpg

I’m sorry that I’ve been such a flake lately! I had a family member go for emergency heart surgery, so I have been very busy. So, between that and being sick I figured this was a great time to catch up on some Awards and Tags!

I was nominated by Sim over at Sim’s Jollies and Jaunts

QUESTIONS FOR MY NOMINEES

1.) Where do you see your blog in 2years?

Hopefully, right about where it is now… Except organized better (getting posts ready to go ahead of time) and more people reading it! Lol! …. And I will have less liver capacity, I’m sure.

2.) Which do you prefer, movies or books?

Depends on the situation! Normally I will say books, but it’s always nice to turn your brain off and watch some movies! … Although, if it’s a movie BASED on a book then books. Always books!

3.) What is/are your pet peeve(s)?

People who don’t say goodbye at the end of a phone call and just hang up.

People who call my store and say “I just had a question..” (well, yes. I’m a place of business. I figured you didn’t call to say hello.)

People who say “I seen that.”

4.) Barbecued chicken or fried chicken

Ooooo….. Probably BBQ. I’m sorry. I LOVE anything on a BBQ.

5.) Where do you see yourself in 5years?

Hopefully not still at my current job! Lol!

I Dare You! Book Tag

I was tagged by Maria over at Bookgraphy

Rules:

  • You must be honest
  • You must answer all of the questions
  • You must tag at least 4 people

1. What book has been on your shelf the longest?

Well, seeing as most of my books are in boxes… This is a tough one.. I think it’s probably (out of the ones I can see) “Ysabel” by Guy Gavriel Kay. I read “the Fionavar Tapesry” a long time ago and absolutely loved it, so I got this wanting to read more of his works….. I haven’t touched it yet…

2. What is your current read, your last read, and the book you’ll read next?

My current read is “100 word Horrors:An Anthology of Horror Drabbles” presented by Kevin J Kennedy and “Illuminae” by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristopher (I never have just one book going!) I just completed “Snowbound with Mr. Darcy” by Caitlin Marie Carrington (don’t judge me. Lol! I love my JAFF!!). The next book I read will probably be “Operation Hail Storm” by Brett Arquette.

3. What book did everyone like, but you hated?

THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN!!!! I really DID NOT like that book. If the main character didn’t stop whining I was going to punch someone. Lol! I also agree with Maria and will say 50 Shades of Grey… If Anastasia “shattered” or “looked up through her lashes” one more time… I would also have punched someone (…. Maybe I’m just really violent! Lol!)

hate

4. What book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t?

“The Hate You Give” by Angie Thomas. I’m interested in it and added it to me TBR list quite a while ago.. But, I just feel that it’s going to come across preaching and political and I don’t have the strength to review it.

5. What book are you saving for your retirement?

Whatever’s left on my shelf when that happens!! Lol! I don’t have a specific book that I’m saving. But, I have SO MANY books that I know I’ll have some waiting for me! (although, I also assume I will die behind the counter of my store. Lol!) I spend too much money on books to retire!

6. Last page: read it first or wait til’ the end?

Wait until the end!!! (ok… Maybe there have been a COUPLE of times that I’ve peaked!!)

7. Acknowledgement: waste of paper and ink, or interesting aside?

I love the acknowledgements!! Ok. Sometimes, they can be a little dry, but most of the time they are heartfelt, and sometimes they’re cryptic and I like to think….. Who are these people?? And SOMEDAY I will BE IN someone’s acknowledgements….. Someday..

8. Which book character would you switch places with?

Alice (in Alice through the looking glass), Elizabeth Bennett (from Pride and Prejudice), Ford Prefect (from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy)

9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life? (Place, time, person?)

“Living Real” by James C. Bassett reminds me of my younger days, calling myself Shade and telling everyone I was going to be a Young Pioneer when I grew up. Also, “Sophie’s Choice” by William Strong reminds me of a friend of mine from a long time ago who moved away.

10. Name a book that you acquired in an interesting way.

Sadly, I don’t think I have a book I acquired in an interesting way. Lol! Most if mine are the usual ways, book sales, box sales, online, etc… I guess the most interesting would be one that I mentioned below. My copy of “Pride and Prejudice” that I inherited from my mother

11. Have you ever given a book away for a special reason to a special person?

I gave away a copy of “The Celestine Prophesy” by James Redfield a long time ago as I was given the book and told that the book was to be read and passed on. I hope it’s still being passed on to this day!

12. Which book has been with you most places?

Well, it won’t surprise anyone when I say “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. I have a copy that was my mother’s when she was in school that has her notes in the margins and everything (something that makes me want to write in books…. But, not enough to actually DO it.) it’s my favourite copy. (notice I say my FAVOURITE copy. Do I have more than one copy?? Short answer. Yes. Long answer. I won’t tell you how many copies or you may call mental health services on me…)

13. Any “required reading” that you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad two years later?

Nope!! I LOVED required reading! And the things I didn’t like, I’m STILL not a fan of! (i.e Romeo and Juliet) I’m sorry… Shakespeare isn’t REALLY my thing. Although, I do enjoy ‘A midsummer night’s dream’.

14. Used or brand new?

Doesn’t matter to me! As long as I can have it!! Lol.

15. Have you ever read a Dan Brown book?

Yes. And (don’t hate me.) I don’t enjoy his writing. I read “angels and demons” and “the da Vinci code” and I  found his need to end EVERY chapter (most of which are only a couple of pages) on a a cliff hanger! I got to the point where I was going to scream at the book “I DON’T CARE ABOUT THE CHIC’S GRANDFATHER’S SECRET SOCIETY AND THE SHOCKING THING THAT HAPPENED.  JUST GET TO THE POINT OF THE BOOK!!” I found his writing style very frustrating.. If you couldn’t tell.. Lol!

16. Have you ever seen a movie that you liked more than the book?

Hm… I can’t say that I liked it MORE than the book. But, the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice allows me to look at Colin Firth with his smouldering looks and wet shirt. Lol! That’s pretty good! 😉 also, Lord of the Rings. After they take out all the walking and sleeping it’s not THAT bad. Lol!

17. Have you ever read a book that made you hungry, cookbooks included?

“The School of Essential Ingredients” by Erica Bauermeister. A wonderful book with beautiful descriptions of the food make in it! (A review is to come on that one or my Father will disown me!) Lol!

18. Who is the person who’s book advice you’ll always take.

My mother. She’s the one who gave me my love of reading and she’s got great taste!!

book meme 1

19. Is there a book outside of your comfort zone that you ended up loving?

I just read Illuminae which is a YA and not NORMALLY my thing. This one was not at all what I expected and I really enjoyed it! Stay tuned for my review!!

Also nominated for this by Maria over at Bookgraphy!

Which was your first favorite book?

Well, I can’t remember what my FIRST favourite book was… Probably “The Weedle in the Needle” or “who put the pepper in the pot.”  Lol! The first books that  I can really remember affecting me would be “A Wrinkle in Time” by Madeleine L’Engle “The Giver” by Lois Lowry and “Number the Stars” also by Lois Lowry.

book meme 3

Where is your favorite place you’ve ever been?

Probably Vegas. What an amazing place that never sleeps and every time I go it’s a whole new city! Things change so frequently you’ll never be able to see everything!

What book character reminds you of yourself?

Is everyone tired of me referencing Pride and Prejudice?? Yes? Well, suck it. Lol! I do identify with Elizabeth Bennett. Not for good qualities really! Lol! More for her hard headed ways. She can speak before she thinks and she has a tendency to forget to think of others and reasons behind their actions before forming an opinion. I try not to do this! But, I know that I have. I also definitely have the tendency to go traipsing through fields and forests and doing other things that may not be the “lady like” thing to do!! (I know, ME? NOT LADY LIKE??) Lol!

Do you prefer physical books, ebooks or audiobooks?

I usually have 1 of each going on at once. Lol! Audiobook for walking, cleaning, etc. Physical book to curl up with on my day off, and ebook to read at night so I can turn it to night mode and read in the dark without bothering my man. Lol! So… As long as I’m enjoying it I’ll take anything!

book meme 18

Which Fantasy creature would you love to have as a pet?

I already have a fantasy creature as a pet… My cat is actually the Cheshire Cat. I am convinced. He’s a wily jerk. Lol!

Who would be your dream book girl/boyfriend?

Any Jane Austen hero… And I do mean any! I would even take Bingley since he’s so happy and genial.

janes heroes

What’s your favorite Superhero?

I’m not really a Super HERO kind of girl. I tend to like Villain types better! Lol! Cat Woman has to be one of my favourites because…

cat woman

Hey, a girl can dream!!

What book has influenced you the most and why?

Probably “The Celestine Prophesy” it’s a little strange and far fetched but, it really gets you thinking, or “Sofie’s Choice” for the same reason of making me think and question.

Other than Blogging, what are your hobbies?

Camping, reading, gaming and knitting.

What’s your favourite quote or personal mantra?

“Be yourself, everyone else is taken.” – Oscar Wilde

Who inspires you?

George Sand (Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin) who is a French novelist from the 1800s who was a pioneer for women. She wore pants, smoked cigars, hunted had many affairs (maybe not something to be super proud of! Lol! But, back then completely unheard of!!) she was an amazing woman and someone I greatly looked up to!

  1. A lovely awards post. I also need to do this. I have three, including yours, and I feel terrible I haven’t responded. Work is just so very hectic right now and I have been working over weekends. Sigh, if only there was more time.

    1. I agree!! As John Hammond says in Jurassic Park “life will find a way” lol!! Ok. Not quite what that quote was pertaining to… But, real life and adulting always sneak in sometimes! I do wish there were more hours in the day… Or that we could all have ‘siesta’ but instead of sleeping we could get other things done! … Or sleep. Lol! That wouldn’t be too bad either!

  2. Got those out of the way! That was fun and your answers (and the meme’s) made me laugh. I can see Pride and Prejudice popping up all over the place in your answers. I have to read that again. It’s been a long time and it’s a favorite among so many readers. I hope all the health concerns clear up well. Take care of yourself. 🙂

  3. I hope your family member is doing well and that you feel better soon! I got an audio ARC of “Operation Hail Storm” by Brett Arquette and I think I said I’d review it by today. 😱

I kind of forgot about it. Sheeeeeit…

I have a couple copies of the Celestine Prophecy because I give them to friends too. I have almost the whole series but I haven’t read them all. It’s actually been such a long time I should reread them.

There was other stuff I was going to say but my brain decided to go out to lunch. 🙃

Great post. Loved reading your responses.
