Synopsis
Weddings are big business in picturesque Sweetheart, California, and Something Borrowed’s rent-a-bridesmaid service is thriving among the Hollywood elite. For the women who work there, a walk down the aisle is just a paycheck—until the right guy makes it priceless . . .
RULE #1: GROOMSMEN ARE STRICTLY OFF LIMITS
Marley Stevenson never imagined her stint as a rented Maid of Honor would practically become a career. Then again, nothing in her life has gone according to plan. At least the money’s good—and she needs it to pay off student loans and help out her mom. But the job has rules, which have never been an issue . . . until one encounter with a gorgeous best man—and his swoon-worthy Southern accent—sends Marley reeling.
Determined to get through the weekend with her professional reputation intact, Marley grits her teeth and sends out her best “unavailable” vibes, but Luke Jessup doesn’t give up that easy. A former Marine and a current SWAT team officer, his focus is legendary—and it’s on Marley. Jeopardizing her job is bad enough, and starting a relationship based on half-truths is worse—yet Marley is beginning to wonder if certain risks are worth taking, especially in the name of true love . . .
The writing style for this book was fine. The word choices and language were fine. Notice I’m saying “fine” a lot. Ha ha! It was all just… Fine. The flow of the STORY on the other hand just wasn’t organic.
You’re pushed into the meeting between Marley and Luke before any characters are even established. How am I supposed to care that these people are propositioning each other in a cereal aisle when I really have no idea who they are?? It was all too quick.
Luke was a fairly likeable character in a typical hot L.A cop visiting a small town kind of way, while Marley? Well, there just wasn’t enough to her to care about. She had lost her sister in the past, which we’re supposed to feel bad about, but it’s not really explained in a way that gave me any feeling about it whatsoever. I feel like I felt more for Marley’s mom, who was really sweet and well written, than I felt for Marley who is the main character!
I also questioned some of the relationships… I mean, who wants to be “Eskimo sisters” WITH THEIR SISTER?? If you don’t know what that term means, you need to watch the t.v show “The League”! But, it’s also good because I’m trying to keep this review spoiler free so, as they say, “what you don’t know, won’t hurt you!” 😉
I’m any case, this book may not be bad for you if you just want an easy read with some somewhat steamy scenes. But, honestly, there are better books to spend your time on! But, you’re all adults, so decide for yourselves! 😘
Don’t Call Me Sweetheart is best Served with a
Sweet Tart Martini
Like the pun on “sweetheart”?? The book was sweet, with tart elements. So, this was fitting! I got the idea of the drink from Suburble and it is great!! (plus every other sweetheart drink seems to have grenadine… Too many drinks use grenadine 🤢
Ingredients
- 1oz Vodka
- 1oz Amaretto

- 2 splashes Lime Juice (or to taste)

hmmm, despite you’re ‘fine’ review, the synopsis sounds catchy enough.

But sweetheart………that drink looks yum! I have to tell you that I am not much of a cocktail drinker, but reading your blog inspires me to want to try them much more.

Ha ha! Well, this one would be a great one to try if you’re not much of a cocktail girl, it’s definitely a great mix of sweet and sour and not to strong tasting… Although, I made wrong about that! It’s like when people ask me if something is spicy I’M THE WRONG PERSON TO ASK! Lol!!

I really don’t like rushed up books which don’t tell enough about characters🙂 And the synopsis wasn’t all that intriguing (no offence😉).
But great review!😀

No offense taken, for sure! This was a book I had from my book bub deals and I was looking for something to read in bed late at night so I wasn’t being too picky! Lol! I thought it would be more like a hallmark sort of read, maybe not great, but cute. But, there was unexpected profanity (which OBVIOUSLY doesn’t bother me! Lol! But, it DOES bother me when it doesn’t suit the book or characters… It was just strange..) and it was so rushed that I couldn’t (and didn’t want to) connect with any of the characters… Definitely a bad choice. Just goes to show that late night Nicole makes bad decisions! Lol!!

Hallmark-y read is the word I was looking for!😂 My mom likes to watch those hallmark movies which are wayy too sappy for me to handle.

Well, you’d hate me!! Lol!! I never get time to watch things and when I do it’s usually
A. Not in English (anime, Korean dramas, etc.
Or
B. A Hallmark movie.
Lol!! My man hates it! But, I love having a hot bath with a mindless chic flic. I don’t want to have to think after long and annoying days!! 😂💖💖🍻

It seems like a weird premise to me. I think I’ll stick with my current steamy chick lit:)

Ha ha! Ya, definitely not my best choice for my first cozy Sunday! I need to stop picking books while I’m in bed late at night! I thought maybe it would be like a hallmark movie with the whole “pretend Maid of honour” thing…. It was not. Lol! Well, they can’t ALL be winners, and when I choose a dud I tell myself that maybe I just saved others… I DID IT ALL FOR YOU! 😉😂☠️🍻

Thanks! Gives me an excuse to snuggle up with a guilty pleasure read! Lol! All of the segments I add to my blog are secretly “Nicole feels guilty about not doing what she SHOULD be doing… But, if she makes it part of her blog than it’s important… Right?? Let’s help Nicole NOT FEEL GUILTY!! 😂🎉🎉🍻
