Thank you to Netgalley and Diamond Book Distributors for an allowing me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis

On a cool evening on the swamp, a figure appears dancing across the water. A human figure, but far from a human form. A Ghost, a young girl spirit that seems to have lost its way. A good Samaritan owl decides to help against the wishes of his animal brethren. What mysteries does the ghost girl hold the secrets to and what will happen when she and the owl unlock them together? Will they find out what happened to her? Will she find her way to where she needs to be? What will happen to the animals in the swamp and surrounding forest? An adventure with the most unlikely of pairs, The Ghost, the Owl.

My Thoughts

Well, I’m going to keep this short and sweet because this was a short and sweet story!

It is the story of helping others no matter what. Standing up for what you believe in and going against the wishes of others to lend a helping hand should not be tied to a certain species, if we ignore the plight of others than nothing will ever be solved in the world.

And… THIS ARTWORK!!! WHAT CAN I SAY??? WOW! It is truly gorgeous!

Owl’s Eye Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 3 oz. vodka
  • 1½ oz. Amontillado sherry (we don’t have this in my area, so I used Oloroso Sherry, which is also nutty tasting)

  • 1 oz. Cherry Heering (we don’t have this in my area either, so I used tart cherry juice instead)
  • 1 oz. lime juice
  • ¼ oz. absinthe

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients over ice in a tikki mug, or hurricane glass
  2. Stir
  3. CHEERS!!!

    1. It’s only 50 pages or so, and I really think it’s appropriate for kids! It does have some subject matter that may not be the nicest, but the overall message is great! I’ll double check the content when I get to my computer to make sure (sometimes I miss things looking at it through adult eyes) and I’ll let you know later today!

    2. Just flipped through the story again. It might be a little scary at one point because the animals attack a man who tries to hurt a woman who protected them. But, the message is sound and its no worse than a Disney movie or fairy tale! Ha ha!

  1. The illustrations are so beautiful! I have a particular affinity for owls myself. And of course, your drink makes me want to start happy hour at 8:51 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, so good job!

      1. Too bad I can’t post a picture in the comment section. The ice matches my light orange stripes and the liquid matches the darker shade of orange on my dress.. exact shades! But that’s funny.. about us matching up with your drink 🙂

      1. Well, this is the first time anyone has put “children” and “up my alley” in the same sentence pertaining to me!! 😂😂😂😂 Usually it’s “children” and “stay away from the crazy drunk lady” 😉😉😉. I kid. My nieces and nephews love me. I manage a VIDEO GAME STORE!! How could they NOT?? 😉💖🍻

  4. Hahaha that was short and sweet indeed!! I’m not sure The Ghost, The Owl is one for me, but the drink looks alright, and that’s the main thing, eh? 😉
