Synopsis

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days meets White Collar in this sassy and sweet romantic comedy, new from bestselling author Kaitlyn Davis, writing as Kay Marie.

All Jolene Carter has ever wanted is a bakery of her own. There’s only one problem. Her father, Robert Carter, is a world-renowned art thief and she’s, well, sort of his protégé. But he’s promised her this next job in New York will be their last, and she won’t let anyone get in the way of her dreams…especially not the distractingly delicious FBI agent hot on her tail.

Agent Nate Parker has been on the Robert Carter case for years, and if rumors of the aging criminal’s retirement are true, this might be his last chance to nail him. With the legacy of his late father in the back of his mind, the stakes are more personal than anyone realizes. He won’t let anything stand in the way of justice…especially not the red-headed vixen who keeps giving him the slip.

He’s a cop who’d never bend. She’s a con who’ll never break. But all’s fair in love and larceny…

My Thoughts

Well, first a confession… I am a HUGE SUCKER of the “opposites attract” trope! All I had to hear was a white collared agent, meeting a sly and fun hacker with sparks igniting and I was in.

I love how buttoned up Nate is, and Jo’s fun, easy extrovert personality coaxing hi to “unbutton”…literally.

I also enjoyed the fact that Jo is an apprentice art thief/hacker by family trade, who wants to be a baker…. can you say random?? I know that I can! It was definitely an all around unique concept!

Strange to say (as they were not in the book a huge amount) but my favourite thing was Jo’s online relationship with her two friends that she had met through an online baking Championship,

“But she loved moments like this-when her creative juices were flowing, yes, but also her time with these girls. Cyber friends, sure, but they were the best girlfriends she’d ever had.”

….reminds me of two ladies I know, so I could really relate to their relationship!! (I’m looking at you Nina and Shalini!

My ONE nit pick in this book (or,” niggle” as a certain lady I adore would put it!) is all of the baked goods that Jo eats throughout the book (and I mean… It’s A LOT!) And yet we get reference after reference to you tight sexy body and her flat belly…. Can I add FANTASY to the genres this book reflects?? 😂😂

The relationship between Nate and Jo was cute and not overly salacious, which was a nice change. Just the right amount of heat! (and, although there was “insta ATRRACTION, there was no insta LOVE! Yay!)

I think the description on “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days meets White Collar” was the absolute PERFECT description for this book!! I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a sweet, easy, unique read.

      1. It’s SO GOOD!! We have so many types of vodka here! (some I have to go to the States for… But, I’m right on the border) right now, I have marshmallow, chocolate chip cookie dough and birthday cake. 😂😂

  1. Hm.
Sorry😂😂😂 Well, gotta say…you actually sold this book to me. How weird is that?? 😂😂 I don’t usually go for these kind of books quite honestly, but this does sound like one of those lighthearted and fun reads (and White Collar is awesome so there is that). Seriously those Viva Puffs though…you guys just have the best kind of cookies 😊😊 Maybe I would just have to change jobs and become a baker so I can make these things myself…..🤔🤔🤔😂😂😂

    1. Ha ha! It actually had some substance for a fluffy romance! (White Collar was an AMAZING show! I LOVED Peter and Mozzie… Neal was ok. 😉)
I’m not a fan of sweets, but Viva puffs are so nostalgic!! And they are DELICIOUS in alcohol form! 😂😂

  2. HA! I can only imagine the crazy Wikipedia rabbit-holes Davis went down while writing, baking AND art heists… her google search history must be hilarious to read through!! How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days + White Collar does sound like the perfect mash-up description, but for some reason reading the synopsis also brought to mind Heartbreakers for me – the mother/daughter duo pulling off one last con. Is that even close or am I way off base??
