Blog Tour- The Scented Bones by Angelina Kerner

Scented Bones Cover

4.5 out of 5 Stars

Thank you to Reads & Reels and Angelina Kerner for having me on the tour!

Synopsis

Angel Svabodina is a rookie forensic anthropologist, enjoying the beginning of her new career. That joy comes crashing down when she figures out the skeleton she’s working on is not human and then it vanishes.

She throws herself fully into the case without thinking about the parties involved, a psychopomp associate, and paranormal mafia families made up of vampires and werewolves—or the consequences.

When she sees there’s no avoiding the inevitable, Angel has to suck it up and work with the werewolves to solve the case but can she trust them?

Werewolves and witches are in a centuries-old feud, but that doesn’t stop the shivers running down her spine from one wolf in particular. What’s more, nothing comes for free, including information. To get what she needs from the werewolf don, Angel has to meet with the fae queen. Can she meet her without repercussions and solve the case?

My Thoughts

As soon as I saw the cover reveal for this book… I knew I would love it. I have a 6th sense about these things! 😉 (… If you had read the book.. That would be funny. Ha ha.)

I knew I had to be on this blog tour and proceeded to beg Shannon for a spot (ok, so I didn’t beg. But, it makes for a better story!)

I was not disappointed! This book is essentially “Bones” meets “Supernatural” meets “The Godfather” ! (I’m sorry, Angelina! I know you may not be pleased with the comparison judging by your writing! 😂

“When I was younger , people would say that pretty girl needed to work in good professions. Good meaning jobs that weren’t weird. Forensic anthropology was weird. Thanks to a popular forensic anthropology show, people thought that forensic anthropologists were crime fighters, getting kidnapped left and right, were touching dead bodies all the time, and had difficulty understanding human emotion.”

Hmmm… Sounds familiar… 🤔

A perfect mix of mystery, Mafia and fantasy, I really hope she writes more! The characters were all likeable, especially Angel’s Grandmother, who was an amazing badass, and Laura, Angel’s best friend and roommate, is the sort of person that everyone would want for a best friend.

There is a little romance, but not enough to be a big focus, which is a fresh change. Even with a few sparks Angel was a great independant character!

If I were to pick on one thing, it would be that I wish there was a little more to the forensic anthropology. She really only looks at bones twice and the whole occupation is kind of left out after that. It became more about the Mafia families(which was still really interesting) , than the science pretty quickly.

I loved the descriptions of the different Mafia families and their focuses,

“Tarotia are masters of poisons and Ambrosia are the magickal drug masters. Santino runs the paranormal gaming ring, Mezzanotte deal in illegal talisman loaning and loan sharking, and Kamorra has the fae and elf personal escort service.”

I enjoyed this book so much that I zipped through it in just a few hours, and I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants a little mob, a little fantasy and A LOT of Awesome!!

    1. Thanks for stopping by! I REALLY enjoyed this book! Definitely unlike any of the other supernatural kind of books out there.. (I could be biased, as I love shows like Bones and CSI and such. Lol!) I also loved that there was a LITTLE romance, but it was far from prominent, and it didn’t even start to be a possibility until, probably about 50% through the book!

    1. I had not finished that sentence before the send key decided to attack, which was very rude of it. Anyways, as I was saying, TruBlood just seems to get re-written ad infinitum and ad nauseum, (I’m having a latin moment) where’s the originality!?

      1. This one was definitely different in my opinion! No one is ever going to stop writing about supernatural creatures… It’s all in the spin on things. This was definitely not your typical “twilight” sort of book!
If you’re tired of the twilight/tru blood sort of thing, this may actually be a good book for you to refresh your opinion!! 😉

  1. Paranormal maffia made up of vampires and werewolves?? Now there’s a thing you don’t see every day (but I guess bones disappearing is’nt something you see every day either 😂😂).Well…go on guess….am I adding this one to my Goodreads to read list?? Well….what do you think??? 🤔🤔🍺🍺🥃🤔🤔

  2. Soooo while the book is still sort of fresh in your mind, I got a couple of questions

    1. You called Grandma badass. What made her stand out? What did you like about her? I’m working on book 2 at the moment and grandma appears soon and want to keep her badass 😉

    2. Which character do you want to see more of in book 2?

    3. Do you like ghosts?

Also, Mikhail interview will be happening in December! Dec 14th actually. Will share a direct link on my blog on the day of!

    1. Well… Put me on the spot!! You know I’ve probably read…. 11 books since this one?? 😂😂
      Well…
      1. I absolutely loved Grandma’s “no nonsense” attitude about everything. You can tell that she running the show from the very beginning. She comes and goes when she wants, you’ll know exactly what she wants you to know and no more, it’s her way or the highway. She was an all around great character and I can’t wait to see where her character goes!

      2. I’d love to see Laura’s character fleshed out a little more. I love her friendship with Angel and would love to see a little more presence now that she knows more!… Obviously I’d love to see more of the key players Mikhail and Gage, and more Grandma! But… Another character I’d love to make another appearance (if possible) would be the Fae Queen! I honestly loved her! 💖💖

      3. OF COURSE I like ghosts!!! As long as they make sense with how they’re are added. I DON’T like when people add a supernatural ghost element when it makes no sense to do so!

I CAN’T WAIT to read your interview with Mikhail!! I look forward to it!

  3. 1. not edited sneak peak to grandma for book 2:

“Hunny,” my Grandmother said, tapping the glass counter with her teal nails. “I am the council and everyone knows that these items can be used for medicinal purposes so you can’t tell me that you don’t sell them.”
The witch clerk paled. “I’ll start working on your order, now Miss. It would take me ten minutes.”

    Sound like no nonsense? lol

    2. I can do that! The Laura thing. Fae Queen appears in book 3. 😉

    3. ooo good. Some of Angel’s skills include – Talking to spirits, aura-sight, and creating potions. So yeah, it makes sense well how I added them anyway haha

    Terrific!

And, thank you for such a fast response!

  4. Hey!!!!! I have one more question. I want to create a different cover for the paperback. I can’t think of what to do with the cover. What can go on back and front? Hmmm. If you think of an element, let me know! I’m all ears. I’m having a much easier time with cover ideas for book 2….wrote 8 chapters so far.

    1. Hmmmm…. I’ll have to think on that one.. But, I’ll definitely let you know. 🤔🤔… Maybe something with Angel and a wolf??… Although, that may be too typical. I wish the Mafia families had crests… It’d be cool to do something with that… It’s hard to know what to put on the book without knowing where the series is headed and what you want the focus to be. 🤔

      1. Well, Tarotia family has a crest that is tattooed on their left arms. It’s 2 snakes around a T. Snakes represent Poisons but that reminds me of Slytherin.

Right?! Typical of two main characters. Thinking hard haha

      2. Ha ha! Ya… They’ll definitely have to represent the families..they all seem to have their own feel and way of doing things… Or just have the crest of the focus family of each book on the cover? 🤔… I don’t know if you want to make the focus obvious or not, though.

      3. Fae Queen is a fun character!

Well, I like how I made a mafia paranormal story so that element is really important, I mean that was the idea- having a mafia family in 2018, except paranormal lol Because this book is the intro to the world, it’s not as clear for the cover idea. The second book cover will have a full skeleton…dressed up! So, if I do crests then maybe it will go on back cause I’m in love with my idea for the book 2. Grrr why covers are so complicated! Haha. Easier to write an entire book…
