Synopsis

My Thoughts

“I find myself wondering if there really could be such a thing as a good twin and an evil twin. And do we choose to be good or bad, or is it already inside of us? And if we do get to choose, when do we choose?”

I think that Brent, himself, said it best…

This series honestly keeps just getting better and better! I love the growth in Afton’s character. Starting out the lone wolf thirsting for blood, and slowly getting sucked into a social circle… Still thirsting for blood! I feel like she’s got her own Scooby gang going on now! I love the struggle she has with trying to keep hold of the old Afton, but as soon as someone is in trouble, her true nature reveals itself,

“Who are you, anyway?” He flopped down next to Tia and folded his arms across his hulking chest, glaring at me through narrowed eyes. “It’s like I don’t even know my own sister anymore. You want us all to believe you’re hard as nails one minute, out hunting down outlaws for the thrill of it all. The next, you’re sticking up for a guy that tried to have you killed. And you’re pleading for Clara’s clean getaway, too, when I could’ve just as easily hunted her down and shot her dead.”

Afton is really starting to flesh out as a character as she pieces together who she really is,

“Badass, I guess? Vigilante? Murderess? Accidental superhero? Oh, forget the goddamn labels. They screamed Afton Morrison, because with them on, that’s exactly who I saw staring back at me.”

And things are DEFINITELY getting exciting!! You know that blood lust you’ve been feeling reading these books and thinking “…..for a ‘serial killer’ series, there isn’t a whole lot of KILLING!” well, prepare to have that appetite satiated!!

“You’re . . . ready now?”“Ready?”“To kill, Afton.”“That’s it, isn’t it? That’s when I see you. When I’m craving a kill. You’re, like, the devil on a junkie’s shoulder.”

There are some shocking deaths in this instalment! (one in particular got me right in the feels!) You want to see some real emotion from Afton?? Make sure you get to this book!!

“Did this fill me with shame and remorse, like slaughtering Pete Albright had? After a moment, the answer was obvious. There was no guilt inside me. I mean, not even a hint of it. A soft tingle of sexual arousal, sure, at watching her struggle against the profuse leaking from her head. Not to mention the severe pain she was experiencing, I’m sure. But as far as I was concerned, I’d made the world a better place, even if my actions had made her world a whole lot worse.”

If I haven’t said this enough before…  YOU ALL NEED TO READ THIS SERIES!! Brent is a master with characters and atmosphere. The more I read, the more I WANT to read!!

Nice Try, Afron is Best Served with an Afton’s Greek Martini

 

Now… don’t shoot the messenger. I had to go for this cocktail because of the name. I mean… COME ON!! I found it HERE. My issue is that is is neither Greek (…maybe the pepperoncini makes is greek??), nor a martini… Confusing?? Yes. But, it IS delicious! And the colour matches the violent nature of this book!

Ingredients

• 1 to 1 1/2 ounces vodka
• 1/2 to 1 ounce pepperoncini juice
• Small squeeze Worcestershire sauce
• Small squeeze Tabasco sauce (optional)
• Black pepper and celery salt
• Clamato
• Bloody Mary mix

Directions

1. Add the vodka, pepperoncini juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, pepper and celery salt into a pint glass full of ice.
2. Fill the glass with Clamato, then add a splash of Bloody Mary mix.
3. CHEERS!!
