Blog Tour: Three Mages and a Margarita by Annette Marie

Three mages and a margarita

4 out of 5 Stars

Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours for having me on this amazingly fun tour, today!!

Synopsis:

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig.

It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview—to see if I’d mesh with their “special” clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That’s the definition of fitting in, right?

I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they…offered me the job?

It turns out this place isn’t a bar. It’s aguild. And the three cocky guys I drenched with a margarita during my trial? Yeah, they were mages. Either I’m exactly the kind of takes-no-shit bartender this guild needs, or there’s a good reason no one else wants to work here.

So what’s a broke girl to do? Take the job, of course—with a pay raise.

Note: The three mages are definitely sexy, but this series isn’t a reverse harem. It’s 100% fun, sassy, fast-paced urban fantasy.

My Thoughts

This book definitely had ELEMENTS of a reverse harem, but please don’t be scared away by that!! It’s a fun fantasy all the way! I loved the world building in this book. The fact that magic lives amongst us in Secret Guilds that are protected by a shadowy Government Agency… IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!

I LOVED Tori, she’s sassy, she’s vibrant, and she’s got a good (though impulsive) head on her shoulders,

“Anyone who’s known me for more than an hour has an inkling of my temper. And by inkling, I mean I might as well wear a flashing sign that reads, “Firecracker Redhead, Beware.” Or, if you’re my ex-boyfriend, it reads, “Don’t Stick It in Crazy Gingers.””

I mean, who else would run into a group of magic users with nothing to use for defense?? She is totally hot headed and speaks from the heart (which normally gets her into trouble), but who out there DOESN’T want to tell a customer who is trying to pull the wool over your eyes that they completely wrong? Or throw a drink in the face of someone giving you a heard time?? COUNT ME IN!!

Now, on to the man meat!! Yup, that’s right. On top of this amazing firey red-head, an urban fantasy is NEVER complete without some sexy mages! Aaron, Kai and Ezra are all well written, diverse characters. I like that they aren’t just your typical stock characters. They have their own distinct personalities and traits. I will repeat, THIS IS NOT REVERSE HAREM!! You do not go through the book wondering “will she/won’t she” with all of the guys! They actually have a purpose within the book, and that purpose IS NOT to sleep with Tori.

Lastly, I have to give Annette a high five for representing Ontario in the book!! WOOT WOOT!! Go Canada!!!

All in all, this was some of my favourite F-words! Fun, Feisty and Fantastical!!! (not the word you expected…huh?)

Author Bio

Three mages and a margarita author

Annette Marie is the author of Amazon best-selling YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, and romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter. Her first love is fantasy, but fast-paced adventures and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it’s not quite that bad) with her husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar. When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.

  1. I’m not easily deterred by reverse harems. They CAN get ridiculous, but Yona of the Dawn is a my perfect manga example of a reverse harem done right. Great post! That margarita looks delicious!

  2. Pretty fascinating story with characters that sound like a lot fun to hang out with hahahah What exactly do you mean by reverse harem? I think it’s the first time I’ve heard anyone refer to it this much, especially warning us that it isn’t that hahah 😛
