A One Year Blogging Anniversary for a Commitment-Phobe!

Woot woot!!! Has it really been a WHOLE YEAR?!

omg chris pratt

I honestly wasn’t even going to write this post because…. Well, why?? Ha ha!

But, I woke up this morning and realized

I COMMITTED A WHOLE YEAR TO SOMETHING!!!

Now, I know that probably doesn’t sound like a lot to all of you. But, I’m a bit of a Dreamer. I get big ideas…. and then I realize that I have to DO SOMETHING to make them happen!

So, lets take a walk through some of Nicole’s Wall of Commitment Phobic Shame….

ashamed

Wouldn’t it be a GREAT IDEA to knit presents for people??

Nicole’s unfinished projects. The pink thing was a baby blanket for my 1st niece…. she just turned 12 years old…

The green was going to be a touque to match a scarf I made for a friend… we haven’t been friends for about 4 years and I gave him the scarf about 6 years ago.

Yes…. the whole box is full of yarn.. (and that’s not all of it)

The Bob Ross Inspiration…

About 2 years ago my man and I had a huge Bob Ross kick and binge watched the whole series “The Joy of Painting”

Bob Ross.png

And, what did I think?? I CAN TOTALLY DO THAT!!!

I went out and bought my dad and I both paint brushes and a set of paints and gave him the paints and a set of brushes for his birthday along with an instructional video set thinking “we’ll have a father/daughter painting night!!”

Bob ross paint kit.jpg

20181120_095854.jpg

Well, I’ve lost half the brushes (…I mean, who could paint without a fan brush?!) and, my don’t those brushes look clean!! Ha ha!

The time I thought I would make Jewellery…

Crafting stores are the Devil. I’ve come to this conclusion. They are full of pretty things that I want to buy just because I think “I could ABSOLUTELY do something with this!!” Hence this collection of beading and jewellery making paraphernalia….

20181120_093434.jpg

I made a single pair of earrings (which I can no longer find), and a necklace for my mother (which actually turned out really nice! …but, she just moved away so I don’t have a picture!)

Then, there was my Obsession with Magic: The Gathering!

I. Love. Magic Cards….. If anyone of you don’t know what Magic: The Gathering is, it’s a strategy card game. My problem?? I love the art, I love the flavour text…. I don’t have the patience to actually sit down and play (especially when they KEEP ADDING MORE MECHANICS! JUST STOP ALREADY!)

I’m like Gimpy from Undergrads who will just Kamikaze to end a game and take himself and everyone else out…

gimpy undergrads.gif

The real issue is (at least if you were to ask my man) I can’t seem to stop buying the cards!!!

20181120_093839.jpg20181120_093850.jpg

And again, that’s not all of them…..just don’t tell my man that.

So, now that you all know my secret shame. Thank you so much for being a part of my year! …Let’s celebrate with a drink!!!

My One Year Blogiversary is Best Served with a Why Not? Cocktail

This is a legitimate cocktail! I found it in one of my bartending guides that was first published in 1935. I decided to use it because this is exactly how I started my blog. I was enjoying writing reviews on Goodreads and had people starting to reach other to me there for Beta Reading and such and wanted to get into helping Indie Authors more, and hopefully into some Editing, so I thought…. WHY NOT?

20181120_102414-1.jpg

Ingredients

  • 1oz Gin
  • 1oz Apricot Brandy
  • 1/2oz Dry Vermouth
  • a Dash of Lemon Juice

Directions

  1. Add ingredients to a shaker full of ice
  2. Shake for approximately 20 seconds until chilled
  3. Strain into a glass
  4. CHEERS!!!

  2. Well done! I’m sort of similar… Without the knitting, painting or cards. I committed to a year, 2 posts a week. Even, for me, it was finish one thing! ie one post. About 3-4 months so far 🙂 good luck for your second year

    1. I’m glad I’m not alone!! Ha ha! I’m hoping that now in my 30s I’m mature enough to stick with it. I just have to stop letting things like stats and numbers annoy me into saying “why bother?” INSTEAD OF “why not?”

        🎉🎊🎉
for Thanksgiving I’m in charge of making greens I’m planning on making brussel sprouts with bacon.

But I think that’s probably not enough
If there was such a thing as ” Nicole’s Mustard greens” dish what would it be?

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Hmmm…. Well, obviously “Nicole’s Mustard Greens” would start with thick cut bacon rendered out in a pan then I would maybe try to flambe some maple whiskey in there, adding the mustard greens at the end for a quick wilt! I’ve never tried this… But, it sounds delicious to me!!

      3. I’ll have to get back to you on that I’ll stop by the store after work and buy some Maple whisky hmm.. is that even a thing?!. Maple whiskey sounds like it’s like a Canadian thing😂😂

      4. I just Googled it , and they’re in fact is a maple shaped bottle of maple whiskey 3.5 miles away from me.

Now If Only They had a version of uber eats except for its for grocery shopping can you imagine being able to have a guy by whiskey for me at 9:41 in the morning😂😂😂

      5. Oh, and if you make this, make sure you leave the bacon grease in there when you cook too! Cook the bacon off, but leave everything in the pan. Deglaze with the whiskey and light that baby up!! (and let me know how it goes!!)

      1. Well, the Magic I was talking about is just a geeky strategy card game… But, as for ACTUAL Magic, if you don’t believe but happen to live in my area, come visit the pop-up Beirgarten I’ll be working on Wednesday! My friend will be there doing magic! (and, yes Shalini… I know that you don’t love near me! 😘😂)

  5. Happy Anniversary! That’s definitely a great achievement 🙂 I don’t really have commitment issues myself, but I can relate in that I tend to enjoy a lot of things a little bit. I’ve also got yarn, jewelry, and all sorts of other things. But I find I enjoy them but am not passionate about them. But I am passionate about kdramas which in turn makes me passionate about blogging. So maybe it’s just finding that thing you really love 🙂 Congrats again!

    1. I’m passionate about things… Until I’m not. I think I come in hot, and then burn out too soon! Ha ha!
I do the same thing with food. I’ll be obsessed with some sort of food and eat it for pretty much every meal every day for a couple of weeks… Then I can’t touch it more months! 😂

      Liked by 2 people

      1. Haha, I’m a creature of habit when it comes to food. I eat the same the things all the time and love it. I think I’m weird there though. Of course, I don’t much like change in general, so I guess I’m a creature of habit when it comes to everything, lol 🙂

    1. Thank you!! My cat is a jerk, but apparently he’s a super cute, perfectly nice jerk if I throw a bunch of beads down on the table! 😂😂 You missed the “after” when he proceeded to knock the sign over and pushed all the beads onto the floor! 🤘😂

    1. Awwwwwww……. Well, I don’t even know what to say to that!! 😅😢💖 I’m not used to dealing with feels so, I’ll just turn them back on you! You are also awesome, amazing with food, your blog is always so eloquent and you are an incredible person that I love to have some chats and laughs with (… And hopefully some drinks one day!!) 💖💖🍻😘

  7. Congratulations on the one year anniversary.
Your jewellery making supplies look suspiciously like a drawer I also have from a brief phase of making bracelets and the like. I should probably clean out that drawer, if it still even opens given I haven’t touched it in years.

  8. Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you…. 🎂🎂🍧🎉🍾🍻🍦📚💕
Well… where do we begin on this one????!!!! Lol. Yarn, magic cards and painting…. Can’t help you much with any of those, although I keep promising myself that one day when I have that elusive ‘time’ I’ll pick up painting and knitting! Really enjoyed your post and I really really really hope the blogging lasts longer. 😉
Don’t worry though, I don’t think Shalini is letting you go anywhere!
Cheers to your one year and I wish you many more!
Please do note that i gave you regular cake for your blogiversary! 😜😆

    1. Psh, REGULAR cake?? What’s the fun of that?! 😂😂 And good to know that Shalini will try to keep me around, since you apparently won’t! 😘 Ha ha! Knitting is amazing! I really need to get back to it… It was a great way to spend the time when I would sit down and relax in front of the t.v for a bit… But, I never have that time anymore! (hence why I’m replying to this almost a week after the fact!! Sorry about that! 😂)

      1. Hahahahaha. I was just saying earlier that I’ve barely seen you around here the last week. Thanks… you’ve saved me the email 😜😂😘
Don’t you worry…. I’d certainly drag you back out here if needs be!

  9. Happy blogversary!

Are we the same person??? Because honestly me and abandoned projects go hand in hand! I once decided that I neeeeeeeded a loft bed and I neeeeeeeeeeeded to paint it only I could finish because chronic pain and then my mum helped me and we put it up and I NEVER SLEPT ON IT because I have a fear of heights????? And the entire time my best friend was telling me “This is a terrible idea, stop it.” But did I listen? Absolutely not.

  10. Huge congrats on 1 year, Nicole! I admire your commitment because you are not alone in your flightiness. I am right there with you and have a box of yard, jewelry findings, and gosh knows what else to prove it! You are ringing in your second year with one of your most entertaining posts yet, and I can’t wait to see more of Nicole’s posts part deux. And your kitty- so handsome! That face!

  11. Happy 1st Blog-iversary, Nicole! We have a lot of the same unfinished projects. Except the Magic Cards — fortunately I’m not familiar with those.
I can relate — and even more so, because I’m trying to get rid of nearly everything (I’m trying to relocate and can’t afford to move it). As I sort through trash and donations, the air is so thick with angst it’s unbelievable.
The cocktail sounds pos-i-lutely divine! Hugs.

    1. Oh no! Relocating?? That’s tough. 😕 We just relocated my parents… I’ve moved 3 times in 10 years… So, I feel your pain. But, my parents just moved quite a jaunt away, and it was tough because there were things that I didn’t want them to get rid of, but I couldn’t just take everything… I have too much crap of my own! 😂😂

  12. ARGH!! Congrats on your anniversary Nicole! Sorry it’s taken me a whole week to read this. I’ve been crazy busy this week!! However, I absolutely understand your post only too well. I myself have an entire wardrobe of “what if” or “wouldn’t it be nice” projects. Also, hubby has enough MtG cards to rival your collection and I’ve played (but holy shit – seriously they need to stop adding new things, I’m down with trample and lifelink and first strike and some other stuff, but all the new guilds things are over my head).

  14. Congratulations on your anniversary, Nicole! About that drink: Double the gin and leave out the other ingredients and you have yourself a winner. Seriously, I’m not much on “sweetie” drinks, although I do enjoy the occasional nip of a liquor. Frangelico comes to mind. (Hmm, I do believe I’m out of it at the moment. Now, what did I do with my list?) 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Actually, you may like this drink more than you think! It really wasn’t sweet at all since the apricot brandy was the only sweet thing in it (and I may have added a touch more lemon juice than would have been required..)
I haven’t had frangelico in AGES!! (I’m not one for sweet liqueurs, either)… Now I’m wondering if I have any lying around though… 🤔
Thanks so much for stopping by! Let’s hope I make it to year 2! 😅😉🍻

      Like

      1. Yep, I can see where the lemon juice would cancel out the sweetness of the apricot brandy. I might just have to give this one a try. Oh, if you do happen to find a bottle of Frangelico sitting around, you better have a set of pliers handy. You might need the pliers to open the top. That stuff sets up and turns into concrete around the screw-top! 🙂
