Synopsis
In this hilarious follow-up to BEN FRANKLIN’S IN MY BATHROOM!, history and hijinks collide once more when Eleanor Roosevelt accidentally time travels to a ten-year-old’s home in 21st-century America!
When Eleanor Roosevelt time travels to Nolan and Olive’s house in modern-day Illinois, the kids don’t know who she is at first. After all, she’s old and wearing a hairnet. But the First Lady of the United States–some 80 years ago, that is– isn’t a mystery for long when she starts spouting things like “You must do the things you think you cannot do.” Fresh off a visit from Ben Franklin, Nolan and Olive know what they’re in for with this latest guest: an adventure. From drawing on ideals of civil protest to save the town park, to (almost) doing a loop-de-loop in a single-engine plane, to avoiding that know-it-all snoop Tommy Tuttle, there’s one laugh after the next in this second book in the History Pals series. Fun back matter expands the story and unpacks the amazing life of Eleanor Roosevelt.
My Thoughts
I love a middle grade book that manages mix fun and education! This was such an entertaining story and perfectly mixes in some interesting facts about the life and accomplishments of Eleanor Roosevelt in a way that kids wouldn’t even realise that they’re learning!
There are also some fantastic lessons in this novel, as well. Eleanor teaches that helping your fellow man should be a reward in and of itself, and that,
“One merely need to remain calm and focused. By doing so, any job can be accomplished.”
While they hunt the streets for the lost dog, Fala, the kids learn things from the First Lady and Eleanor learns things from the kids. This teaches us that no matter your age, whether it’s past, present or future, we should always be open to learn new things.

So cute… I loved the sound of the book and the drink.. With 2 posts, 2 drinks, are you drunk?

Ha ha! No. I made the drinks yesterday. And, it takes a lot more than 2 drinks for me! I thiught it was funny that 2 children’s books happened to fall in the same day! And 2 really awesome ones at that! Apparently I have a theme going on today!

This book sounds really fun, kind of reminiscent of the Amelia Bedelia books, though the cocktail does offer a nice, adult, alcoholic twist. As well it should.

I defintitely agree! And I feel like the drink was a little darker than it should have been… I MAY have added a little too much dark rum. 😉
