5 out of 5 Stars
Thank you to Shalini @ Digital Reads Blog Tours and Robbie Yates for the secret invitation I received……
Synopsis
Maxine is smart, quirky, and a bit of a misfit. One day, she receives a mysterious invitation to a meeting of the “Kooky Kids’ Club.”
Things are looking bright. It’s nice to finally have a real group of friends. Then Maxine’s teacher disappears.
Maxine doesn’t know what happened to her beloved teacher, or how she can help. But if anybody has the smarts to help Miss Thompson, it’s Maxine and the Kooky Kids’ Club…
This quirky chapter book is for the best kind of kids—the ones who are a little bit kooky
My Thoughts
…As I said, it started with a secret invitation,
Wait…. secret…. Hmmm. That probably means that I shouldn’t have said anything about it! But, I know you won’t tell. I trust you all, and I feel that at the end of this review you’ll ALL want to be a member of the Kooky Kids’ Club!
When the girl who thinks herself invisible receives a secret invitation, she realizes that maybe there is someone out there who understands the way she thinks. Throw in a secret club of special, talented kids, a mystery, and a lot of wonderful morals, and you’ll have this wonderful story.
I’m pretty sure that Robbie wrote Maxine based on me.
“She had a quirky sense of style. She didn’t wear boring jeans and sweaters like other ten-year-olds; she wore unique t-shirts or polka-dot dresses instead. She spent her free time sketching and reading comics , so she knew almost nothing about the latest pop stars and vlogging sensations. There simply weren’t enough hours in the day to care about her favorite things, and then learn about everyone else’s favorite things too.”
This was my childhood. (well, there were DEFINITELY no vlogging sensations… There wasn’t even vlogging.. Hell, there wasn’t REALLY the internet.
But, I absolutely recommend this book, and look forward to picking up a couple of copies for my nieces and nephews!

Sounds good for kids at least, maybe not the drink. That should be for grown ups. 😊

Ha ha! It’s what you drink while you read the book TO your child!…. Although, it would probably help the child sleep…. 🤔

Yaaay!!! Thank you, Nicole!!! I’m glad you felt close to Maxine… she is similar to me, too, so it makes sense that she’s like you (after all, we’re twins separated at birth, right?!!)
Now. In Australia it’s nearly cocktail hour. I think I might need a drink like yours… 😂
