Synopsis

Don’t miss this laugh-out-loud, action-packed romantic comedy, new from bestselling author Kaitlyn Davis, writing as Kay Marie.

Agent Leo Alvarez is on his way to Hawaii when his partner calls in a favor—the mob is after a pastry chef in NYC, and he’s the only one who can get to her in time. With his dreams of Mai Tais and sandy shores ruined, Leo rushes to her rescue. But when he arrives at her apartment, he’s greeted by an upturned nose and an icy blue stare. This damsel in distress doesn’t need saving. Good thing he’s a retired marine who never backs down without a fight.

After a childhood racked by scandal, McKenzie Harper has learned to loathe surprises. So when a strange man knocks on her door, interrupting her morning routine, she has no choice but to politely shut it in his face—no matter how deeply his hazel eyes might pierce. She has places to go, pastries to bake, and promotions to secure. Or she did, until three masked men kidnap her and throw her into the back of a van… Suddenly, that white knight doesn’t seem so scary.

He’s a cocky Fed with a killer smile. She’s an uptown beauty with a biting tongue. If they want to survive, they’ll have to learn to work together—assuming they don’t kill each other first.

My Thoughts

Another adorable installment in this series full of fast paced action and steamy romance! HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG??

This was definitely another triumph and I really love how Kaitlyn really brought this one together! Not only did she do an amazing job of tying up lose ends and really allowing you to get to know the last couple of wonderful characters in the series, and totally falling in love with their stony sarcasm,

““Ow,” McKenzie groaned and stirred.

“You’re all right.”  A heavy breath pushed the words out in a rush.

“Depends on the definition.”

He arched a brow, feeding off her combative tone. “You’re alive.”

“Barely.”

“You’re safe.”

“Safely in the middle of nowhere.”

“You’re in one piece.”

“Despite your best efforts,” she drawled again.”

She also had this story running simultaneously with the second book of the series. So, it was really fun to see what everyone was up to when all of this was happening!

McKenzie and Leo are both hilarious characters! McKenzie’s “Ice Queen”ways definitely reminded me of myself at times!

“I’m not sure what you overheard—”

“Us ice queens aren’t known for our hearing,” she drawled, cutting him off. The Fed had the decency to wince.

“I’m sorry,” he continued, stepping closer. He held his hand aloft as though begging for a moment to explain. “I shouldn’t have called you that.”

“Why not? It fits.”

I also loved the “will they/won’t they” going on between the two characters as they try to build their walls back up, even as they break each other’s down. Always questioning their thoughts and feelings, and the thoughts and feelings of each other.

“Of course he hadn’t read her mind. Of course he wasn’t overanalyzing everything that had happened between them. He was a guy. They’d gotten drunk. They’d had sex. End of story and back to the mission. He just wanted to get her home safe so he could return to his normal life.”

With Russian Mobsters, family issues, PTSD and some really cute and sexy romance HOW CAN YOU SAY NO??

  1. Ok stopping right at the beginning, (will go back honest) because this drives me nutsoid…..
“new from bestselling author Kaitlyn Davis, writing as Kay Marie.” What in Sams Hell’s name is that about??? “Oh I’m a best selling author who has loads of fans but I’ll write a book with a name no-one’s heard of and see if anyone buys it. Oops though, I need people to buy it or they’ll cut my electric off and foreclose on the homestead, so I’ll let everyone know it’s really by me!!” 😳🙄🧐 No disrespect to Ms.Davies, as even Stephen King had a pseudomomdoplumo, but he’s as mad as a box of snakes anyway. Any way, this was brought to you by Rant of The Day, you’re welcome. 🤣

      1. Hi! Kaitlyn here 🙂 I’d be happy to do an interview, sounds fun! I figured I’d answer this one here! I write books for teens under the name Kaitlyn Davis, and since my romances are a little sexier, I like to separate the two genres by using a pseudonym, Kay Marie. I’d hate for people to think they were reading a YA book, when it was in fact something meant for adults! As far as the bestselling, my first series “Midnight Fire” has sold over 300,000 copies (just reached that figure this year, yay!) and was named by Amazon as one of their bestselling series back in 2013, so that’s where that comes from. My first series written as Kay Marie was also an Amazon bestseller, reaching #1 in a few romance categories, but Kaitlyn Davis is still my more popular author name so I like to use it in the description. Maybe I shouldn’t–who knows! 🙂 Anyway, I hope this answers the question! Thanks so much again!

      1. Oh no, not dissing, just flummoxed as to why anyone changes their name when they’re so popular being who they are. But then let everyone know it was them! j.K Rowling is another one. I mean WHY?? I’m obviously too dim to figure it out!

      2. 😀 it must be a thing authors do then, but I stilll can’t see the point if everyone knows it’s you!! It would be just easier to put the genre on the front cover. Bon Jovi were still Bon Jovi when they did their Country album. 🙄
