    1. Isn’t it, though?? I love this song!! Simple Minds is defintitely an amazing classic. I do like the other, as well. It’s fun when a band can take a classic song and give it a completely different sound. 😊

      1. Ha ha!! Well, I’ll see what I can do. I don’t think there will be any psychoactive drugs in it… I don’t need the cops looking for me for posting illegal substances! 😉🤣🤣

  1. Okey dokey, here we go.

‘The Wind and the Wave’ seems like they just added an up-tempo folksy drum track to the song. Kind of a silly cover. Maybe it is slightly charming, if I were being generous.

I am going to give the win to ‘Simple Minds’. I like his stylish, rolled up sleeves.

    1. I am so glad you posted that! The wind lots video isn’t available in my country (hello Canada, UK calling.. commonwealth!!! ) and I couldn’t be arsed to find it here. Obviously a wise move on my part. Sounds dreadful.

    2. Well, I tend to like a cover that can take the song and give it a different sound. You will probably get mad at me in the future because, although I absolutely adore my classics and I love a great song. I can also appreciate an artist who can flip it on its head and do something silly with it! People who won’t even give something different a chance make me angry. I’m not saying that these artists can win against a classic by any means… But, sometimes I feel like they’re not even given a chance and just looked over BECAUSE they’re up against a classic. The point of me starting this was to introduce people to something new that they may enjoy, but most of the time I just feel like it’s “I like this version and didn’t even try something new because…”. I still enjoy putting it out there! But, I wish that others would at least keep an open mind and try something new!

    3. P. S. It’s funny that I’M the one saying this, because I grew up on music from the 20s-60s mostly and I’m the LAST person to support anything new over a classic…. But, sometimes you need to put aside what you grew up with and look at something different.

      1. Hi Nicole.
Sorry I bagged on a song you love.
        I love Fraggle’s irreverent humour.
I do try to give each version an honest chance, and then I go all ‘Lester Bangs’ on them.
I often change my mind on which is my fave after your articles.

I usually go for the original version of a song, but I do have a few surprising exceptions:
        – Jimi Hendrix performing ‘Hey Joe’, is NOT my favorite version.
-The Rolling Stones performing ‘Satisfaction’ is third on my list..
-Devo, performing ‘Uncontrollable Urge’ is NOT my favorite version.

        Your Monday morning smarty-pants pal,
        ~Icky. 🙂

  2. I have found thru the ages that covers are rarely as good as originals. It sometimes happens that a cover can surpass the original but it isn’t that common. Simple Minds has this one by a dozen lengths.

Here’s a suggestion for a song, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?” A number of incredible versions of it out there. It would be a very tough decision for me.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll defintitely put it in the list! 😁
I agree completely that a lot of the time the original will be best, but sometimes I put things out there just to introduce something new to people. I understand it won’t win, I just hope that people actually listen to it or I’ve pretty much wasted my time! 😉🤣
