THE SHIRELLES!!
Now, for this week’s vote!
Who Did it Better? “Heroes”
The Wallflowers
VS
David Bowie
VS
Peter Gabriel (A write on vote courtesy of Venessa @ Food in Books and kindly seconded by Book Beach Bunny! If I’d known that he HAD a version it absolutely would have been here to begin with!)
I dunno. I really liked Peter Gabriel’s version of “Heroes.” Of course, no one can do it better than Bowie. But do check out Gabriel’s version. And since it was also in Stranger Things, it can’t get any cooler than that.

I didn’t even know that Peter Gabriel did a version! I LOVE Peter Gabriel…. I’m probably one of the only people who hasn’t watched Stranger Things. I started the 1st season and loved it. Stopped to watch it with my man….. then never started again! Lol! Now, he’s been a jerk and passed me and I’m alone in my dark corner…. Adding a write in vote!

Well you are seriously missing out on some excellent TV. And very good opportunities to drink while watching said TV.

Lmao!!! Well, the problem is finding the time to watch t.v. (I say from behind my bar at work on hr 8 of 11) I miss t.v….

Why don’t you suggest that your bar have a Stranger Things Trivia Night? Then you have an excuse to watch it. I dare say your bosses would even let you watch it at work in preparation for the event. Just a suggestion…..

Ha ha! Oh, I agree that this version is super nostalgic! As much as I love Bowie, I wouldn’t pit him up against this version if it didn’t hold a special place in my heart. Lol!

The Wallflowers – well bless them, they tried, but a pointless cover as they just are not in Bowlies league.
Peter Gabriel – well trust him to take a great swing rhythm and f**k it up, no wonder Genesis did better when Phil Collins took over. Needs to remember K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid).
Bowie- This is one of the few songs of his that I love to bits. Great lyrics, compelling riff, lush swing rythm and builds beautifully. A masterpiece. Wins my vote
.Great story about how the song came about here- https://www.loudersound.com/features/the-story-behind-the-song-heroes-by-david-bowie.

Also can’t believe you didn’t include Motorheads version which is brilliant.

Motorhead did a version?!? Geez…. This is what I get for putting up a Music Monday from work. Usually I do my research!!! I might have to add that! I agree about the wallflowers. But, it’s nostalgic 90s for me!! Bowie is the love of my life… So, it’s difficult to pit anyone up against him. He’ll always be my one and only (well… Him and Kevin Hearn from BNL.. 😘) And, I found Peter Gabriel’s version very… Eerie.

Well old Gabriel is a bit of a genius, but I always think he’s up his own arse as well, and makes some odd decisions musically. Loved Sledgehammer.
