Hello All!
This meme was created by Drew @ The Tattooed Book Geek.
I’ve promised that this week I was going to be a bit more “normal”. (I’m sorry for all of you who came looking for something crazy this week, hit me up next week and I’m sure we can work something out!)
With all of this talk of the loss of Anthony Bourdain, it got me thinking of other talented people we lost way too soon (yes, I’m also going to be a huge Debbie Downer this week).
Elliott Smith was found at the age of 34 with two stab wounds, after fighting with depression, and drug and alcohol abuse. It was never discovered whether the wounds were self-inflicted, or homicide.
He wrote six wonderful albums (his last one was released posthumously).
His lyrics are always sad and beautiful, you can definitely feel his struggles through his music. I hope you all enjoy. This is one of my absolute favourite songs performed by him, and whoever put this video together made it into a wonderful tribute to him.
First the mic, then a half cigarette
Singing Kathy’s clown
That’s the man she’s married to now
That’s the girl that he takes around town
She appears composed
So she is, I suppose
Who can really tell?
She shows no emotion at all
Stares into space like a dead china doll
I’m never gonna know you now but I’m gonna love you anyhow
Now she’s done, and they’re calling someone
Such a familiar name
I’m so glad that my memory’s remote
‘Cause I’m doing just fine hour to hour, note to note
Here it is, the revenge to the tune
You’re no good, you’re no good, you’re no good, you’re no good
Can’t you tell that it’s well understood?
I’m never gonna know you now but I’m gonna love you anyhow
I’m here today, expect it to stay on, and on, and on
I’m tired, I’m tired
Looking out on the substitute scene
Still going strong
XO Mom
It’s OK, it’s alright, nothing’s wrong
Tell Mr. Man with impossible plans
To just leave me alone
In the place where I make no mistakes
In the place where I have what it takes
I’m never gonna know you now but I’m gonna love you anyhow
I’m never gonna know you now but I’m gonna love you anyhow
I’m never gonna know you now but I’m gonna love you anyhow
Wow, I love all the pics. You can definitely feel the emotion. Thanks for sharing this! This is another new one for me. ❤

All of his music is so full of emotion. You can just sense how trapped he felt in his life.

What a talent! I love this song! So mysterious about his death, too. Thanks for sharing!

It’s so strange that they never figured out if it was suicide or not! You would think the angle of the wounds or something would help! It’s pretty rare that someone stabs themselves too. That’s takes some real dispair and balls…. 😕

So, weird. Now that I check it in my comments section I can see the link… But, I can’t click it or copy it… Maybe it’s because I’m on my phone. 😕

Well a bit mournful for me, but a nicely put together tribute.

Ya. I definitely felt like a downer this week! Guess that’s what happens when I have a shitty week. Lol!

I just had this problem with Joseph Beech! WordPress is blocking out the links so I can see them in my comments, but not on me blog and I can’t click on them! 😔 What did you send me?

Good lord, that backstory is so sad and tragic. Thank you for this uplifting Monday post, Nicole. 😛 I kid! This is a really wonderful song and I’ll never not love musicians who are vulnerable enough to weave their personal struggles into their music.

Ha ha!! That’s what I was saying!! I’m usually not such a downer! But, tragic happenings + Bad week = tragic amazing music. Ha ha!
Hopefully I’ll have something a little more whimsical or fun next week! 😉 Although, I will warn people, I do have my tragic side!!
