“Some things can’t be faked…”

Helicopter pilot Taylor Blankenship’s time schedule is maxed out. Between his job, his one hundred and fifty-pound slobbering mess of a dog, and his matchmaking grandmother, he has no time for anyone or anything-especially a woman. If only there were a way to get Grams to back down.

The job of New York City dog walker suits Caitlin Ramos perfectly while she preps for her CPA exam—steady, scheduled, and requiring very little human interaction; a huge seller since she’s still on the mend from a toxic relationship. Men suck. Especially her bossy hot client with the Saint Bernard that thinks it’s a lap dog. No way will she go for his plan to pretend they’re engaged to get his grandmother off his case. Down, boy.

Offered a bargain she can’t refuse, Caitlin finds herself playing the part of fiancée to Taylor. Fortunately, it’s only for three days. All she has to do is fake a relationship with Mr. Bossy Pants in front of his entire family, survive a fierce game of truth or dare with an unscrupulous pair of octogenarians, endure a one-on-one round of Twister with Taylor, and not lose her heart to a guy who turns out to be a lot more than she’d bargained for.

Okay… this is a bit of a joke as the characters in the novel are initially building a catapult and this entire story begins with the protagonist, Strafe, getting the bright idea that he should be the test dummy to be thrown across a chasm to see if it works… he is tied to a safety rope that is to save him from slamming into the chasms wall in case he doesn’t get the height he needs…. hence the WALLBANGER… GET IT?!!! ….I think I’m HILARIOUS!!! 🤣😂🤣😂 By the way, have you ever wanted to drink a creamsicle?? Because, now’s your chance!!

Blog Tour-Ray Vs The Meaning of Life

Cover Ray vs meaning of life

5 out of 5 Stars

Thank you for checking out my stop on this tour with Xpresso Book Tours! Feel free to follow the rest of the your with the schedule at the end of the post!

“Stewart presents readers with a dynamite coming-of-age story … A tale spins its answer to an age-old question into an inclusive, hilarious, and thought-provoking yarn.”—Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

Grandma’s Last Will and Testament names Ray to inherit the trailer park. It’s a million-dollar estate with one hitch: to prove he’s not as aimless as he seems, Ray must discover the meaning of life by the end of the month. (She left the answer in an envelope.) If he fails, the camp goes to his estranged family.

How does anyone find the meaning of life while running a park full of misfit miners, would-be truck racers, and one demanding little girl? There’s a bear too. A grizzly. Maybe that’ll help?

My Thoughts:

Ray is just an ordinary 17 year old. He wants to relax, play his video games (with the DOZENS of people who watch him play), and eat his weight in Kraft Dinner. That is all about to change when his Grandma dies.

“Grandma was rich. She owned Sunny Days RV Park and wasn’t all that pleased about getting old, so she’d arranged for the freezer people to come and freeze her if by chance she kicked it. Grandma always told everyone her Last Will and Testament would be a “doozy .”

“You can take my park, but I’m gonna want it back when I resurrect like Jesus,” she’d say.”

When he’s named in the will to inherit everything if he can discover “the meaning of life” his family is livid, leaving him to run “Sunny Days” RV park all on his own. But, how easy can it be for a 17 year old to realize the meaning of life? How easy is it for ANY of us at any age to figure it out?

“This video’s right. There is no meaning. How can there be? When we die everything is forgotten. There is no purpose. And don’t say ‘going to heaven ’ because I don’t believe in that.”

With words of wisdom from respected people at the park,

“A person’s life is long and the ending of it doesn’t tell the tale. Unfortunately, it is what we most remember.”

“Fear is nothing to be afraid of ,” Salminder replies. “Letting it control you is the problem.”

And a bootcamp with the T.V guru, Dalen Andres, his grandma hired,

“Worry, worry, worry. Most of the stuff we worry about never happens . Worry is a symptom that you live too much in the future. You can’t afford negative thoughts, not a one. Not a single bad one about yourself or about anyone else.”

“I can’t do that— they just pop into my head.”

He sits beside me and takes my hands. It’s weird because I can’t remember the last time a man, a person of any kind, has touched me in so intimate a way. It’s not sexual or anything, it just doesn’t happen to me. I cringe from it, but he holds.

“They don’t pop into your head.” Dalen’s intense eyes hardly blink. “You control them. If there’s anything I can teach you, it’s that. Only you are in control of your thoughts. Thoughts lead to actions, actions to habit, habit to destiny. In fact, my friend, your thoughts are the only thing in your control.”

He’s going to try his hardest (of the hardest a 17 year old can try!) to figure it out.

It’s not going to be easy though. Ray has some seriously insightful concerns that I’m sure have plagued all of us in our lives. In a day where the internet is everywhere, how can we feel like the best when the one in a million is always being flaunted in our faces? What’s the point of trying if we can never be the best?

I’m going to take a wild guess that I can find people out there better at everything than me. Why focus on anything when there’s no way I have a chance at being the best at it?”

This book was so much deeper and more meaningful than I ever expected. I will be honest and say that I requested to be on this tour because I loved that the cover looked like “Monty Python’s Meaning of Life”. This is the 2nd time that I’ve requested to be part of a blog tour for a silly reason and it has been an AMAZING BOOK!! I think this may be my criteria for the future! Ray may not have been the most lovable character, but he was a character that grew up through the course of the book. You couldn’t help but root for him even as he tries to give up. His reasons and feelings are so valid that everyone will surely relate to him (at least I hope it’s not just me!!). He sees things through the eyes of a child, but also as a man, understanding what a lot of adults would miss or take for granted.

“Hi, Mr. Ray.” She smiles big. “Is the iceberg melted?” For a second I look inside to my stomach, but panic-berg’s still there.

“Almost,” I say. “Maybe tomorrow. Did you know an iceberg sank the Titanic? They can be huge and dangerous.”

A tiny furrow appears between her eyebrows. I wondered when those wrinkles start, and here I am seeing this one begin. If all it takes for a kid to be successful is one person to believe in them, then maybe all it takes is one person for a kid to distrust, to start the brow wrinkle.

“My mommy said tomorrow means one more sleep. It’s been . . .” She starts counting on her fingers and runs out. “Yeah, I know. Not everyone’s tomorrow’s the same. But this time it’s one more sleep.”

She smiles again , but I see that the furrow’s still there. And I know where they come from. Broken promises.”

I loved the messages and values that this book teaches. I won’t ruin what those are… you’ll have to find out for yourselves when you read it. I WILL say, that this book will touch all of you. It will make you think, and it will make you question. For all those lost souls out there, it may give you some guidance (while also giving you a laugh!)

To protect the throne, seventeen-year-old spy Kali must play a male guardsman trainee by day and royal lady by night.

Orphaned and trained on a spymaster’s remote estate, Kali is a scout who works alone in the shadows. But when a terror group threatens the Dansil throne, the king forces Kali to accept a mission at the palace or forfeit her sister’s life.

Suddenly thrust into the light, Kali must infiltrate high society as the royal Lady Lianna while penetrating the servant ranks as Kal, a male guardsman trainee. It doesn’t help that Trace, the harsh and enigmatic captain of the king’s guard, is soon assigned as both Lady Lianna’s palace escort and Kal’s commanding officer.

As Kali edges closer to the truth behind the violent group’s identity, she uncovers dangerous secrets that could bring her mission to a brutal end. A scout’s job is to observe and report, never to engage . . . but if it means saving her sister and kingdom, Kali may have no choice.

TRACING SHADOWS, by Amazon bestselling author Alex Lidell, is the first novel in the Scout series. Perfect for fans of Tamora Pierce, Leigh Bardugo, and Sarah J. Maas

I should leave. Now.

Instead, I pick up a jagged stone and press myself against the wall. My heart pounds in my ears, sweat forming on my temples despite the chill wind. If Lord Gapral finds out . . . Swallowing, I lean around the corner and skip the stone along the side of the barn closest to Mustache’s men.

The men startle. Move toward the sound. I sprint in the opposite direction, banging my fist against the barn wall. “Loose horse! Wake up in there! Loose horse!”

Curses and agitated neighs sound from inside. A moment later, the barn’s back wall vibrates from the impact of kicking hooves. Good enough. Changing direction midstride, I sprint for the tree line.

“There he is,” a voice calls behind me.

My legs burn as I press into a faster run. The thud of pursuing boots echoes through my bones, but I’m smaller than the men. Faster. My breaths come in short, rapid bursts. Two dozen yards will see me into the blind blackness of the forest. They have to. One dozen.

A hand slams the back of my tunic, shoving me to the ground.

I twist as I fall, landing on my back. The impact takes my breath, but my legs are up and ready to kick. Burying my boots in my attacker’s hips, I lift the man into the air. The momentum of his weight rolls us, and with the next heartbeat I’m the one on top, straddling the man’s chest. I slam my fist down on his jaw and scramble away.

Another man grabs me from behind, his arms wrapping around my torso.

I stomp my heel onto his foot and twist free.

Something slams into my ribs. A fist or a boot. Maybe an elbow.

I move through the shock, loosening the throwing blades strapped to my forearms. Someone grabs my arms and wrenches them behind my back. My shoulders scream. I do too. Until a blow to the gut cuts my air.

“What are you doing here, boy?” Mustache demands.

“Nothing, sir,” I gasp, my voice catching. “A jest. I’m sorry. I’ll . . . I’ll settle the horses back for you. It was a stupid jest to wake up the hostlers. Lazy, drunken buggers. Just a bit of amusement.” The pressure on my shoulders tightens and I scream again. The Viva Sylthia aren’t buying my lie.

My Thoughts:

4 out of 5 Stars

So, I will be honest. I actually requested this book based solely on the fact that the main character’s name was Kali, which used to be a nickname of mine. Lol! I’M SO GLAD THAT I DID! This book was very enjoyable. I loved Kali, she was strong and independent. I loved Trace, who is reliable and hiding a personal depth, and I love Luca, who is just plain loveable! I’m really looking forward to more from these character! If you enjoy well written fantasy with a little splash of war and romance, this book is a must have! It’s an easy read with vibrant characterization and the beginnings of a great world!

Anna is a student surviving the city, and she lives by a simple credo, “Never play their game; their game is always rigged.” For every man she has ever known, it’s a saying that has served her well.

That all changes on the night of “The Big Storm,” when Anna is slipped a date rape drug. Though she saves herself and her best friend, Anna is lost to the dark heart of the city and finds herself hunted by The Night Collectors. Unsure if these monsters are real or hallucinations, Anna nonetheless fights them as best she can. The battle attracts a stranger—Teej—who saves her using powers she cannot understand. He explains that she is an Undreamer and possesses the same powers, and in the future, he will not be the one to save her. She will save him.

But Anna is not yet ready to join Teej and stand against The Dreamers. She has difficult decisions of her own to make. Decisions she has always run from. She still has her partner’s suicide letter. It remains unopened. She still wears his ring, though she can’t seem to remember his face.

Anna learns of The Dreamers – artists so preeminent in their respective fields that they can paint, dance, sew or sing new realities – and as she travels through their creations, she learns that there’s as much beauty in the world as there is horror. With a complex conspiracy at work within the community of Dreamers that threatens to undermine reality itself, Anna will have to look deep within herself, and eventually have to face the horrors of her own past, to save her old world as well as her new one.

Anna Undreaming is a dark urban fantasy, and the first book in the The Metiks Fade trilogy.

Her old world was gone. The trees and the parked cars and the houses and the street. Gone. In their place a green sky stretched over those familiar, endless purple sands. Surreal light shone into Anna’s kitchen—light from a different sun in a different sky. She was in his world now.

And he was there.

Hunched on a purple dune loomed a large, wretched creature with black, empty pits where his eyes should have been. His dark outline stood out on the bright landscape, and a body was at his feet. A girl with long hair that covered her face. Her blood was smeared around his mouth, on his hands, around his feet and all over the body. Splashed on the sand like it had been poured from a bucket. So much blood.

Standing scarecrow still with a dimwitted smile on his clown face, his mouth curled at the corners into a rictus grin. Long, blackened teeth contrasted with his bone-white flesh. His head tilted loosely to one side and his eyes tracked her as she moved. The wind blew through him while the swirling sands swept past but didn’t touch him.

She heard a voice from the living room. It was muffled, but it sounded like a hundred children speaking all at once, all saying the same thing:

“I smell the fear,

Your hope is gone,

No friends left,

You are but one.”

His voice reverberated like a chorus of nightmares. She looked back into the living room and noticed it echoed through the phone that hung off the hook. It had answered itself, and now Mott spoke through it to her. She turned back to the window, and he was gone. The girl and the blood remained.

Get close to him. Pretend to be afraid. Never play their game.

My Thoughts

Wow. The beginning of this book literally had me putting it down because it creeped me out and I had to sleep! (And I’m the horror Queen!) The “Night Collectors” had me chilled and creeped for sure! I loved the concept of this book and a world where there are pockets of space that we don’t know about and could never see without being “Behind the veil”! This was definitely a well written YA fantasy with wonderful world building.

My one complaint would be too much explanation about some things (the Metiks, Doxa, different types of hazes, etc.) and too little explanation about other things… why is this all happening to begin with?

But, even though some of the story seemed a little disjointed in coming together it was still an amazing story! Read it so I can have a conversation about it!!

Lia Abbie has the easy life—kicking it back with old school video games, hanging out with her best friend Barnabas, and alternating her living schedule between the apartments of her two dads and her mom.

Kiev Jimenez is a theater geek who loves him some Shakespeare and taking care of his pet armadillo. He has one set goal in life: obtaining the role of Horatio for the Hamlet school play.

When a showdown between Lia and Kiev lands them in the principal’s office, they’re forced into volunteer work at the cringe-worthy Piggy Palooza Festival, or risk being suspended. Lia and Kiev aren’t thrilled about the situation, especially when it interferes with Lia’s relaxed life and Kiev’s theater role. But by working together, they may find more than just bacon—possibly a little love in the air.

The door is already wide open. Mr. Walker is missing in action, but two guys are already there—Tweedle Jerk and Tweedle Jerkier.

I’m not dealing with this crap today. I march up to Cole, who is sitting in my seat again, and watch as Kiev’s eyes seem to follow me all the way until I’m standing in between both of them.

“You need to get out of my seat,” I say to Cole. Does he have his usual basketball shirt on today? He does.

He holds up both hands like he’s trying to tame a wild boar. “Calm down. Calm down, Miss Ophelia Abbie. The bell has not announced the start of this oh-so-wonderful class.”

I give him a look of disdain. “Enough with the Ophelia stuff.”

“What’s wrong with the name Ophelia?” Kiev pipes in. “It’s like the name from Hamlet.”

“What?” I turn to Kiev, not sure what this idiot is talking about.

“You know, O-phe-li-a.” He draws the name out super slowly to get his point across.

“I don’t give a crap about Hamlet—that has nothing to do with my name,” I huff.

Tapping his fingers on the desk like he’s typing on a keyboard, Kiev stares at my face. “Are you sure your parents didn’t name you after the character?”

“Who the hell names their kid after a stupid Shakespearian play?” I’ve read two, and I hated them both.

“Plenty of people. Juliet Weaver, in our grade, was named after Romeo and Juliet.”

“Quit being pretentious.”

“Quit being a—”

I narrow my eyes at him. “A what?”

“You know what you’re being.”

“Shut up, Kiev. Oh, my parents named me after the capital of Russia, because I’m such an important person who has to answer questions for people when they don’t need help answering!” I yell.

“Um, Kiev is actually the capital of Ukraine.” He bobs his head. “You know that, right?” I hear Cole’s loud hooting to my right.

That’s it! Without thinking, I slam my fist directly into Kiev’s nose.

About Gerardo:

Gerardo’s amazing bio.

Yup. Even though I’m like one-hundred-and-fifty-nine years old, spelled all out, I love to write about contemporary teens in distress. So no magic, dragons, or unicorns.

About me

At the tender age of sixteen years old, when giant lizards ruled the world, I used to be a DJ–turntables and all.

I was born in the States, raised in Mexico, and now live in Big D.

Cloud computing is my area of expertise–just don’t ask me what cloud computing means.

I love football, the one played with the feet by footballers, La Liga from Spain being the best.

Chilaquiles is my favorite food. Yummy.

About my novels

Multi-cultural is my writing trade, in English and Español.

My writing must be emotional or else …

I believe in the Oxford comma, but the Oxford comma doesn’t believe in me.

Love first person present tense POV.

In my novels, food tends to be another protagonist.

Lucifer’s Pride
by G.P. Ching
(Soulkeepers Reborn, #3)
Publication date: May 29th 2018
Genres: Fantasy, Paranormal, Young Adult

No one comes between the Devil and his pride.

To save his friends, Finn Wager opened a bridge between worlds. But the dark magic he used exacted a terrible price. Unable to remain on the Soulkeeper team, he joins a coven of magicians in New Orleans, vowing to undo the damage he’s caused. But when he tries to save the day, he ends up making everything worse.

Numbers dwindling, the Soulkeepers are more vulnerable than ever. The new Healer is reluctant to replace Hope on the team. Even if he decides to try, he’ll have to pass an initiation by the Immortals with life or death consequences. Meanwhile, the Soulkeepers are without the leader they need.

Twice, the Soulkeepers have evaded Lucifer’s clutches and injured his pride. Now it’s personal. He’ll stop at nothing to exploit their weaknesses, take back his power, and end the Soulkeepers for good. Unless through courage, loyalty, and self-sacrifice, they can find a way to become a team again.
