Thank you to Book N All Book Promotions and Junction Publishing for having me on the tour today!

Synopsis

He walked out of my life eight years ago, and for the first couple of years, I wrote him faithfully.

Then life happened, and we lost track of each other. Now he’s back; appearing one day on campus and sweeping me off my feet. He looks the same—rough stubble on his square jaw, broody brown eyes, thick brows that always lifted when I made him laugh. My Jo-Jo has come home after eight years in Afghanistan.

She looks the same as I remember her in high school, but now she’s all woman—sophisticated, educated, and just as curvy as ever. And now she’s a professor, and I’m falling for her all over again like I did at senior prom. War screwed me up, but every day Abby was my saving grace.

She promised one day she’d never let me go, made me promise I’d come back to her. I’ve come back to claim that promise. There’s just one problem: Abby’s moved on. How will I convince the love of my life that a day never went by without her on my mind?

My Thoughts

I had a bit of a Love/Hate relationship with this book. I loved the story. The idea of the two best friends from years ago finding each other again, and the lives that they have been leading getting in the way of happiness way just what I needed!

I loved that Abby was a proper woman, no wilting waif in this story. She was curvy and realistic…. though, if someone called her fat one more time I was probably going to chuck the book across the room.

Even the cheese level of the book was just right! (Come on, sometimes we all need a little cheese in our lives…. Gotta get that calcium!! Ha ha!) This was basically like reading a soap opera at times, with such gems as,

“She wasn’t the same girl from high school. Right here, right now, she was all woman.”

And,

“The marines took a boy and sent me back a man.”

I loved that!!

But, the pacing was off. It was all happening so quickly, the typical “I can’t be with a soldier!” ….two seconds later they’re kissing.

singin in the rain

Also, there seemed to be some inconsistencies in the story as well, Joey is referred to as chiselled the first time he takes off his shirt, but the next time Abby comments that he’s gotten a little soft since leaving the Marines and doesn’t have the abs anymore. ??? Which is it?

All in all an enjoyable guilty read though, great relationships between Abby, Joey and Zoey, and some very likeable secondary characters!

I wanted to have some of this Berry Blast Vodka with this book, a Limited Edition from Smirnoff for Independence Day! For all the Soldiers, and all their hard work. This book may have been a little fluffy, but it still made me think about everything that soldiers on active duty must have to go through.

I had to drink it straight as Joey “learned how to drink coffee like a man in the marines, black.” so, I’ll drink my vodka like a man!

CHEERS!!

  1. Duh…everybody need a little cheese in our lives! Hmm..as for the guy being described differently: maybe the second time he was abducted by aliens and they took off his abs? Hey it happens right?
Well..I don’t think this is a book quite for me, but as always I still enjoyed reading your post! Have a great sunday 😊

    1. YES! That’s what the book needed. That sci fi flair! 😂😂 It would explain so much! It really was a great story though, I did enjoy it, it could have just used a little more editing/proofing. Though, I hate to go into that too much in reviews as I never know which edition the people running the tour give me! So, I like to give the benefit of the doubt. 😊

      1. Haha, I understand and I think that is a good thing. (Would be a shame if you bashed it for that and the final version does not include it lol😂). But I’m glad to hear that overall you enjoyed the book (even though it did not contain any alien abductions 😂😂)

  2. Love how you summarized this with such detail. It was like telling a story before bedtime. Also love the bottle, must be a special edition, haven’t seen any here like that.
