The 12 Days of Christmas…Day 1

12 days

Merry 12 days until Christmas! In honour of Christmas coming (a little too soon in my opinion!!) I’m going to do a book review/Christmas cocktail pairing every day!)

Book the First:

4 out of 5 Stars

I thought that this would be a perfect first book! First of all, being called ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ and secondly being about a new blogger trying to get her foot in the door.

This was the perfect book to set the mood for heading in to crunch time of the Season when things are starting to get hectic, people are starting to get stressed, and the crunch really begins to set in. I really needed a sweet uplifting book…and this was EXACTLY that!

Julia Padden has a cranky, newspaper stealing neighbour, code named: Ebenezer who is driving her bright sunny mind crazy. Her friend comes up with the idea that she kill him…… with kindness. Every day she will do something nice for the Scrooge of a man until she finally manages to melt that heart of ice with her Christmas Cheer and Goodwill keeping track of her progress and getting feedback and suggestions on a blog that she starts that absolutely explodes with readers looking to help or critique in even measure. Will her kindness pull through? Only time will tell!!

The characters in this book are all fabulous! Julia can be a little annoying, I will admit (I forgive her because even SHE admits this!), Cain (the infamous Ebenezer) Is equal parts frustrating, angry and charming (a veritable Mr. Darcy!) and his Grandfather is probably my favourite character of all, almost a sweet Santa Claus come to life, he joins the fight to bring him Grandson back to the world of the living.

The interaction between the characters is sweet and heartwarming, the whole novel is essentially a Hallmark Movie written down. I highly recommend it for a night before the Christmas Tree, the Fire, or both! Snuggle up with my ‘Best Served With’ cocktail and you won’t regret it!

Twelve Days of Christmas is Best Served With:

Peppermint White Russian

This drink is in honour of Julia’s favourite Holiday coffee beverage in the book (a peppermint mocha latte) So, with the cream, coffee liqueur, and peppermint it has many of the same ingredients!
