Synopsis

Victor Shelton ran from his family’s legacy of prophetic dreams at seventeen but finds at twenty-eight that he is unable to run from the nightmares that plague him. Haunted by images of his own death each night he follows the fleeting memory of the town limit’s sign in his nightmare to a quaint Colorado town.

Beckoned to a forbidding mountain peak with a past riddled by ghost stories and legends, Victor must figure out who is friend or foe. Can he unravel the secrets of the enigmatic citizens of Carver’s Corner and solve his own murder before it happens?

Perhaps the answers are in the siren song of whatever is calling him to the caves under Maiden’s Peak. The song in the darkness urges him on, but whether it is to his death or to his salvation, Victor can’t say. All he knows is that once before he had not heeded the call of his dreams and someone had died. He can’t let that happen again.

My Thoughts

Well, straight up, I LOVED this story. I also loved the characters.

The story was like a cozy mystery, wrapped in a supernatural tortilla, that was then eaten by H.G Wells…. makes no sense?? Maybe you should read it and see what I mean!

The characters were equal parts eccentric and adorable…. ok. Victor and Thorn were adorable. For two strong minded men who liked to butt heads sometimes, that may be a weird way to describe them. But, seriously….. AWWWWWWWW…….. It’s really hard to say much about this book without giving too much away!

I also loved the atmosphere of the book. I could really get the feel of the dark, the cold, the small town and their superstitions. It pulled me in and wouldn’t let me go until I got finished the last page.

My one complaint would be that there was too much description of things that didn’t matter (a dinner, a waitress taking orders, etc.),and not a lot of description of things that DID matter, like when it’s described that Victor and Thorn stay up and talk about their childhood, and things that happened in their past…. wouldn’t it be good to go into things like THAT a little bit more? Being such a short novel, I wished for more depth into the characters I was learning to love.

I would definitely recommend this to those who want a great, easy to read, mystery!
